Herkimer 2 (story/pic)

After waiting for some time for Steffen to come out of the old factory, Craig decided he should go in and let him know it was just a joke.

He searched the factory, yelling out for his friend, but there was no answer.  Everything was silent.  He got the doorway by the stairs that lead into the the lower parts of the factory.  He could see some footprints in the dust leading down into the darkness.

Craig called down to Steffen, but there was no answer.  He went down into the dark passageways.  The dank, humid air filled his nostrils as he made his way, searching for his friend.

He got to an open area in the basement and could feel a chain from the light dangling against his head.  He pulled the chain and a bright light glared at him from across the room.  He placed one hand up to block some of the blinding light.

Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a shadowy figure race towards him.  Startled by the sudden movement, Craig quickly turned to see what it was.  Once he turned, a sword was rammed deep into his gut.

He bent forward and let out a muffled "Huuaaghh."  He stared straight at his attacker, thinking it was just Steffen playing a joke on him.  But the pain searing through his gut was just too real for a joke.  And that shadowy figure was not Steffen.

Beyond the figure, on the wall, hung Craig's friend, blood still dripping from his gut.  All Craig could do was stare in shock and fear.  He felt a sudden surge of energy rip through his body and his legs begin to tremble.

He fell forward to the floor, driving the blade deeper into his gut.  The hilt slammed against his abs.  He tried to flex to dull the pain, but the hard hit against his abs sent a sickening ripple through his stomach.

He coughed out a spew of blood on the floor, he stared briefly wide-eyed at the red pool he had spit on the ground before collapsing into it.

Herkimer turned off the lights and hung the boy's body next to his friend's.
